The past few days have been t-o-u-g-h. When you haven’t gotten a full night’s sleep in, well, almost a month, life is difficult. The chronic waking up wears on you. You’re in survival mode. Ian also went on his first work trip since Lane was born on Monday & Tuesday and it took a lot out of me. I am not complaining, but merely letting you know that a newborn isn’t just cute pictures and wonderfulness, even though there is a lot of that too.
My main point is that when your daily goals are to keep a little human and yourself fed and moderately clean, small gestures mean the world. Yesterday a neighbor came over bearing wine, lasagna, salad, fresh bread, and a big bag of macaroons. I was so overcome with gratitude I almost cried. This lady has three kids, one being 10 months old, and her husband has been deployed for 9 months now. How she managed to make this feast on top of everything else she’s in charge of befuddled me. Never underestimate the power of a homemade meal, especially to people going through a stressful time.
So, here’s to acts of kindness, whether they be large or small, and fresh macaroons with your morning coffee.
What have you done for someone else today? xoxo
